Digital technology has made image alteration so simple and so seamless and so cheap that we can no longer trust any piece of film or videotape (present or past) to the extent we once did. Over the past decade, the documentary quality of photographs (old and new) has been entirely undermined. Nevertheless, over the course of a few hundred years, this advancement faded into the background and became just another tool to serve the art.Ĭomputer imaging tools like Adobe Photoshop have had an impact comparable to that of linear perspective on the medieval world. This discovery also led to some very mediocre art, the sole purpose of which was to show off this new technology. ![]() Suddenly the world could be represented in a radically new way. This literally changed the way people saw, allowing the artist to blur the distinction between a surface plane and three-dimensional space. Sometime around 1400, Italian painters discovered linear perspective. ![]()
